3 Nonprofits, 5 Kilometers, 1 Cause - The Fly 5K October 5, 2021
On October 2, we had the privilege of being the charity partner of the Fly 5K, a race organized by the Pacific Northwest running production company Orca Running. The event was held at the stunning Museum of Flight on a characteristically crisp fall morning. As the race’s charity partner, Aviation for Humanity received a portion of each registration fee as well as a contribution for each volunteer who gave their time. With 400 adult and child participants, every single registration slot was filled for the event.

(Image by Fast Focus Photography)Something that was particularly exciting was the support we received from another aviation-based nonprofit, the Civil Air Patrol. The CAP is the official auxiliary of the US Air Force and has three primary missions: aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services. Cadet and senior members from two local squadrons—the McChord Composite Squadron and the Green River Composite Squadron—volunteered their time and efforts in order to make the race possible. The CAP volunteers and a number of independent volunteers assisted with participant check-in, course guidance and motivation, food and water distribution, parking, and more. We are extremely grateful for all of those who gave their time in support of A for H.

The event began with a kids’ dash, which ensured the day started with many big smiles. Following their hard work, the kids cheered on—and many even joined—the adults as they ran their 5K. Throughout the morning, there were eight waves of runners, with starts every two minutes. We were impressed by the efforts of all, notably those who ran with a stroller or in aviation-themed costume, those who completed their first 5K, or who beat their personal best.
Each start took place in the Museum of Flight’s Aviation Pavilion, an incredible three-acre display of nineteen rare and unique aircraft, including the first jet Air Force One. After exiting the Pavilion, runners passed static displays of the iconic B-17 Flying Fortress, B-47 Stratojet, and F-14 Tomcat. An extra-special feature of the Fly 5K is that all participants and volunteers received admission to the Museum of Flight following the race. The Museum is home to more than 175 air and spacecraft and is the largest independent, nonprofit air and space museum in the world. We could not have asked for a better host for the event. What a wonder woman. (Image by Fast Focus Photography)To our volunteers, the Civil Air Patrol members, participants, Museum of Flight, and Orca Running: Thank you for supporting Aviation for Humanity and our mission to create a global community that supports education, equality, and empowerment of youth around the world. Run exclusively by volunteers, Aviation for Humanity channels all proceeds directly to that mission. This year, we have been fulfilling that mission by supporting the Botswana-based nonprofit Dare to Dream. Read more about our involvement, and stay tuned for updates on another recent event |

Monday, March 9th, 2020
A big THANK YOU to Klara, a Whidbey Island second grade student with a big heart! She (along with her mom) organized an after school pencil case stuffing party. They organized volunteers and secured a location at the public library where the group stuffed 1500 items into 250 pencil cases. These cases will be transported to shelters and orphanages in remote regions worldwide. Thank you to all the volunteers for being part of the global community that uses aviation to support education! |
The Girl Scouts help A for H give back! - Jan. 11, 2020

Aviation for Humanity was honored to have members of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Service Unit 151 of South Whidbey Island assist in stuffing 200 pencil cases with various school supplies for children in Mozambique, Africa.
On Jan. 11th, more than 30 Girl Scouts from Daisy Troop Members to Cadettes, volunteered to create 200 cases containing pens, pencils, crayons, notepads, and toy aircraft. These pencil cases will be shipped to volunteers working with the not-for-profit organization, All Hands and Hearts, which is helping to build schools with the Mozambique Cyclone Recovery Program in the Nhamatanda District.
Our team was excited for the Girl Scout’s enthusiasm to help A for H and the many students of Beira, Sofala Province, Mozambique who lost their schools during Cyclone Idai. Their willingness to choose us as a Service Project is very appreciated! Thank you!
